Setting up the site

Find the location, import the surrounding context and terrain, draw or edit the boundary, and set setbacks and the street frontage.

Narrated walkthrough, 1 minute 12 seconds. Nothing plays until you press play.

Step by step

  1. In the Site tab, search an address or place and choose a result. The sun position for every solar check comes from this location.
  2. Press Import OpenStreetMap context for the surrounding buildings, roads and trees, and Import terrain for contours and a 3D ground surface.
  3. For a NSW address, press Look up lot and planning controls, then Use lot boundary to make the cadastral lot the site and Apply planning controls to copy the zone, FSR and height into Criteria. Check them against a planning certificate.
  4. Or draw the boundary: choose Draw site, click each corner, then click the first point or press Enter. Create makes a rectangle of the width and depth you enter; Pick OSM shape uses a mapped lot or building outline; Import DXF uses the largest closed polyline of a survey.
  5. Refine it with Edit site: drag vertices, click a red midpoint to add one, double-click a vertex to delete it.
  6. In Edges and setbacks, enter a setback for each edge (or one default and Apply to all edges) and mark the street edge as the frontage. The dashed line is the buildable envelope.

Find the location. Start in the Site tab. Search an address or place and choose a result, then import the surrounding buildings, roads and trees from OpenStreetMap, and the terrain from survey contours. The location also sets the sun for every solar check.

Lot and planning controls. For a New South Wales address, Look up lot and planning controls finds the cadastral lot with its zone, floor space ratio, height limit, minimum lot size and any heritage, flood or bushfire mapping. Use lot boundary makes it the site, and Apply planning controls copies the controls into Criteria.

Draw the boundary. To draw a boundary, choose Draw site and click each corner on the metre grid, then click the first point or press Enter to close. You can also create a rectangle, pick a mapped lot with Pick O S M shape, or import a D X F survey.

Edit, setbacks and frontage. With Edit site, drag a vertex, click a red midpoint to add one, or double click a vertex to delete it. The Edges table sets a setback for each edge; the dashed line is the buildable envelope. Mark the street edge as the frontage: that is where the basement ramp goes.
